3D high-resolution acoustic imaging of the sub-seabed

چکیده
Chirp sub-bottom profilers are marine acoustic devices that use a known and repeatable frequency-modulated source signature to produce vertical seismic reflection cross-sections of the subseabed. Here a 3D Chirp system is described that operates in the frequency range of 1.5–13 kHz, to produce a three-dimensional image of the sub-seabed, with typical penetration of 10–30 m and decimetric horizontal and vertical resolution. The system design incorporates a rigid frame that contains the Chirp source array together with 60 receiver elements, with positioning provided by an integrated real-time-kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS). The system can be surface towed from a small survey vessel and can be applied to targets of marine geological, engineering, archaeological and defence interest. Data acquisition and processing are described for a case study which images a buried engineering structure in the Port of Southampton. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In vivo sub-femtoliter resolution photoacoustic microscopy with higher frame rates
Microscopy based on non-fluorescent absorption dye staining is widely used in various fields of biomedicine for 400 years. Unlike its fluorescent counterpart, non-fluorescent absorption microscopy lacks proper methodologies to realize its in vivo applications with a sub-femtoliter 3D resolution. Regardless of the most advanced high-resolution photoacoustic microscopy, sub-femtoliter spatial res...

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUV) are rapidly being transitioned into operational systems for national defense, offshore exploration, and ocean science. AUVs provide excellent sensor platform control, allowing for e.g. accurate acoustic mapping of seabeds not easily reached by conventional platforms, such as the deep ocean. However, the full potential of the robotic platforms is far from exh...

Texture analysis plays an important role in image processing. Considering the extraordinary appearance texture sonar images, texture analysis are good choices for analysis of acoustic seabed images. Local binary pattern (LBP) operator is a very efficient and multi-resolution texture descriptor. It acquires appropriate information from the illumination and moods of images. Despite many developin...
